In an innovative move to promote eco-friendly transportation, Punjab’s caretaker Chief Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has launched the ‘Green Wheels’ campaign. This initiative is set to transform the landscape of transportation in the province by offering electric bikes and rickshaws on easy installment plans. The campaign represents a significant step towards sustainable practices and environmental stewardship in the region.
A total of 10,000 electric vehicles, including bikes and rickshaws, will be made available under this scheme. In a bid to ensure equitable distribution, 2,000 electric three-wheeler bikes will be given free of cost to selected individuals. Additionally, government personnel and women working in various sectors are also earmarked to receive 2,000 electric bikes each.
Electric Bike Revolution in Punjab: A Green Step Forward
This project is not just about promoting electric vehicles but also about a paradigm shift in governmental policies. A notable policy change is the restriction on the purchase of petrol motorcycles by government agencies, which will now be replaced with electric bikes. This aligns with the global movement towards more sustainable and eco-friendly transportation options.
The Chief Minister has emphasized the importance of this campaign in making Punjab a greener and cleaner place. He urges the public to embrace this opportunity, reflecting the government’s dedication to tackling environmental issues and endorsing sustainable solutions.
The electric mobility initiative is on the verge of its launch, marking a significant advancement in Punjab’s journey towards environmental responsibility and sustainable development. The initial phase of the plan, as detailed by Minister Bilal Afzal, focuses on distributing e-bikes to deserving students through a balloting scheme managed by the Bank of Punjab. This phase prioritizes major cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Faisalabad, with separate quotas for male and female students.
This ambitious project is a testament to the government’s commitment to sustainable transportation and environmental conservation. It is a beacon of hope for a cleaner, greener future, not just for Punjab but as an inspiration for regions worldwide.
