In a major step to boost road safety, the Punjab Safe City Authority has rolled out cutting-edge artificial intelligence software. The AI technology is designed to identify motorcyclists not wearing helmets, as shared by the authority on its social media platforms last Thursday.
Last year, the interim government raised fines for helmet-less motorcyclists from Rs. 200 to Rs. 2,000 across the province. Recently, Chief Traffic Officer Ammara Athar instructed wardens to escalate actions against traffic violations in the provincial capital.
As per a spokesperson from the traffic police department, over 16,000 motorcyclists received fines for not wearing helmets, 264 drivers were penalized for underage driving, and 1,635 vehicles were seized for emitting smoke during a recent crackdown.
