OpenAI’s last upgrade to ChatGPT was GPT-4 Turbo, which was officially launched in November 2023, featuring a significantly larger context window and an updated knowledge cut-off date. Now, the AI chatbot is on the brink of yet another upgrade, as hinted by leaked information from the company itself.
The AI startup recently published a blog post discussing GPT-4.5 Turbo, the next anticipated update after GPT-4 Turbo. However, the post was swiftly removed shortly after. Nonetheless, the article provided insights into the upcoming features of GPT-4.5 Turbo and its enhancements.
According to the now unavailable blog post, the new ChatGPT upgrade promises increased speed, accuracy, and scalability. One of the major improvements includes an updated knowledge cut-off of June 2024, ensuring users receive the most up-to-date information. While some speculate this could be a mistake, others believe GPT-4.5 Turbo might be launched in June this year, although there has been no official confirmation from OpenAI.
GPT-4.5 Turbo will also boast a context window twice the size of GPT-4 Turbo, at a staggering 256K tokens, equivalent to around 200,000 words. This expansion makes it suitable for processing comprehensive documents, research papers, and more.
However, the crucial performance metric is not the sheer volume of words it can process, but rather the ability to meaningfully assess them. Competing AI models with large context windows often struggle to effectively interpret information in lengthy documents, leading to unreliable results. If GPT-4.5 Turbo can demonstrate progress in this area, it could gain a significant advantage over its rivals.
As of now, OpenAI has not officially acknowledged these leaks or provided a launch date, so we must wait patiently for an official announcement.
